The 6th grade E2K program wrapped up its yearlong enrichment journey in spectacular fashion — with student-built rockets soaring above the roofline.
The yearlong program of math and science enrichment at the Abraham and Sara Silber Middle School at Yeshiva of South Shore concluded with a blast — literally — for 6th grade E2K participants. After months of challenging, discovery-based learning, the boys took their studies from the classroom to the blacktop for a rocket launch that had everyone looking skyward.
That deceptively simple question from Mrs. Pinsky set the stage for a rich, multi-disciplinary investigation. Finding the answer required students to explore aerodynamics,

particle physics, fluid dynamics, and Newton’s laws of motion — a serious scientific toolkit for any 6th grader.
Armed with that knowledge, the students designed and built their own water-pressure rockets — and then launched them. The results were impressive: several rockets climbed high enough to clear the top of the building, drawing cheers from classmates and onlookers alike.
It was a fitting finale to a year defined by curiosity, rigor, and hands-on discovery. The E2K program continued its tradition of pushing talented students beyond the standard curriculum — and this time, well beyond the roofline too.
